A bar is great for a night out, but it's hard to get past small talk over loud music. A run club, a chorus or a game night gives you something to do together and the same faces every week, so by the third visit people know your name. Men's Discussion Group at The Center

Wednesdays 6–7:30pm

San Diego LGBT Community Center, 3909 Centre St (Hillcrest)

A peer-led weekly group where GBT+ men of all ages talk about whatever's on their minds, personal or topical. It's a low-key way to make friends in a supportive room, and you can just show up.

San Diego Gay Mens Meetup

Several events a week (hikes, beach yoga, potlucks); days vary

Around San Diego (recently La Jolla, Pacific Beach, Sorrento Valley)

A big, long-running group for gay men that plans hikes, sunset yoga in PB, BBQs, bonfires and themed potlucks, with making friends as the whole point. Most events are free or cheap, and hike hosts post the route and difficulty ahead of time.
