The Castro for the history and the 18th Street crawl, SoMa for leather.
The Castro is still the most famous gayborhood in the world, and 18th Street is an easy bar crawl. SoMa holds the leather history and hosts Folsom and Up Your Alley. Rents are steep, so plenty of guys live in Oakland and come over the bridge.
